Negative Space is an immersive audiovisual installation that places the spectator at the heart of a transitional space. The work relies on a device combining light and fog: the fog makes light visible and seems to suspend it in the air, giving it a volumetric presence capable of drawing contours and suggesting temporary architectures.

By alternating negative/positive sequences, these luminous volumes appear and disappear, shaping ephemeral spaces that continuously construct and deconstruct themselves around the spectator. This combination — light “frozen” by fog and the negative/positive alternation — disrupts spatial and temporal reference points, disorients the viewer, and encourages an intuitive exploration of their environment.

By blurring the boundaries between the tangible and the intangible, Negative Space questions our perception of reality and invites us to reconsider the way we apprehend and mentally reconstruct the spaces around us.

Negative Space est une installation audiovisuelle immersive qui place le spectateur au cœur d’un espace en transition. L’œuvre repose sur un dispositif associant lumière et brouillard : ce dernier rend la lumière visible et semble la figer dans l’air, lui donnant une présence volumétrique capable de dessiner des contours et de suggérer des architectures temporaires.

En alternant des séquences négatif/positif, ces volumes lumineux apparaissent et disparaissent, organisant des espaces éphémères qui se construisent et se déconstruisent autour du spectateur. Cette combinaison — lumière « figée » par le brouillard et alternance négatif/positif — brouille les repères spatio-temporels, désoriente le public et l’invite à une exploration intuitive de son environnement.

En brouillant les frontières entre le tangible et l’intangible, Negative Space questionne notre perception du réel et nous pousse à reconsidérer la manière dont nous appréhendons et reconstruisons mentalement l’espace qui nous entoure.
